2009/2010 TOLEDO PUBLIC SCHOOLS FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS
Following is a listing of scholarships and brief descriptions according to categories:
William Vaughan Company Scholarship - $1,000
The Fund supports a scholarship award to a senior who will pursue a career in accounting.

HealthSCOPE Health Care Career Scholarship - $1,000
The Fund supports a scholarship award to a senior who will pursue a career in any health care-related field.
ProMedica Health System Allied Health Career Scholarships - 2 @ $1,500
The Fund supports scholarship awards to seniors who plan a career in nursing or other allied health field, such as medical assisting, dietetics, physical therapy assistants, occupational therapy assistants, radiography, sonography, nuclear medicine, surgical technology, and dental hygienists. Scholarships are available for programs offered at Owens Community College and Bowling Green State University.
"Champion Toledo" Initiative
St. Luke's Hospital Scholarships - 2 @ $1,250
The Fund supports a scholarship award to one Bowsher High School and one Rogers High School senior who will pursue a degree in nursing or other allied health profession at an accredited two- or four-year college or university in northwest Ohio.

Allied Toledo Architects, LLC (ATA) Scholarships - 7 @ $1,000
The Fund supports scholarship awards to seniors who will pursue careers in architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, or interior design. The Fund is established by the architectural alliance for the TPS Building For Success school renovation and replacement program.
Associated General Contractors of Northwest Ohio Scholarships - 2 @ $1,250
The Fund supports scholarship awards to seniors who will pursue a career in architecture, construction, or engineering.

Charles E. and Margaret Banner Scholarship - $1,000
The Fund supports a scholarship award to a senior who will pursue a career in engineering. The scholarship is in honor of Charles E. Banner, resident of Sylvania and graduate of Ohio State University who has worked as a civil engineer for many engineering firms, including Libbey-Owens-Ford Company.
Crestline Paving & Excavating Company, Inc., Scholarship - 2 @ $1,000
The Fund supports a scholarship award to a senior interested in pursuing a career in architecture, construction, or engineering.

"Engineering a Bright Future" Scholarships - Up to 5 @ $1,500
The Fund supports scholarship awards to seniors who will pursue careers in architecture, construction, or engineering.

Miller Bros. Const., Inc. Scholarship - $1,000
The Fund supports a scholarship award to a senior who will pursue a career in civil engineering or construction management, with an interest to stay in northwest Ohio after graduation.

Mondo Mechanical, Inc., Scholarship - $1,000
The Fund supports a scholarship award to a senior who will pursue the skilled trades (SKT), such as building maintenance major, construction trades major, electrical major, mechanical major, and certificates in all major areas plus HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning) at Owens Community College.

The Fund supports a scholarship award to a senior who will pursue a career in construction at Bowling Green State University or The University of Toledo

Terry Lesniewicz Art Scholarship - $1,000
The Fund supports a scholarship award for a senior art student from Woodward High School.
Signature Bank Business Scholarship - $1,000
The Fund supports a scholarship award for a senior who will pursue a career in business.
Theodore H. Harbaugh Foreign Language Scholarship - $1,000
The Fund supports a scholarship award to a Scott High School senior who will pursue a career utilizing a foreign language (in teaching, in business, or in foreign/military service). The scholarship is in honor of Ted Harbaugh, who was decorated for his service as a Japanese language interpreter with the 1st Marine Division in the Pacific Island campaigns of World War II. On the island of Okinawa, in the days surrounding the surrender of Japan as a nation, Ted won trust of a Japanese Army officer, and thereby his willingness to surrender his unit to U.S. forces, without bloodshed; the first such surrender in the entire military theatre. His language skill and compassionate heart were what made this possible. The Japanese officer became a friend for life and Ted never tired of advocating language study as the principle means of understanding and forming significant relationships with people of another culture. His life was dedicated to promoting equality among all races, creeds, and nationalities. (Award made possible through the Kay and Ted Harbaugh Charitable Trust.)

The Fund supports a scholarship award for a senior who will pursue his/her choice of study at Bowling Green State University.

Davis College Scholarship - $12,500 "Full-Ride"
The Fund supports one "full-ride" scholarship for a senior who will pursue their choice of study at Davis College.

Dr. William and Brenda Facey ProMedica Health System Scholarship - $2,000
The Fund supports a scholarship award to a senior who will pursue his/her choice of study at University of Michigan. The scholarship is in honor of the dedication and service of Dr. William Facey, a member of the Board of Trustees at ProMedica Health System.
Heidelberg University Scholarships - 3 @ $1,250
The Fund supports scholarship awards for seniors who will pursue their choice of study at Heidelberg University.

Herzing College Scholarships - 2 @ $1,000
The Fund supports a scholarship award to a senior who will pursue his or her choice of study at Herzing College.

LMHA Larry Sykes "What's Your Dream?" Scholarships - 2 @ $1,250
The Fund supports scholarship awards to LMHA residents who have children in Toledo Public Schools. The scholarship is for one African-American young man and one African-American young woman of any age who will pursue their choice of study at any institution of higher learning. The scholarship is in honor of former Lucas Metropolitan Housing Authority Board member Larry Sykes (Scott H.S. '67) and the underserved children in the district. To receive the scholarship, the student must graduate from a Toledo Public High School.

The Fund supports scholarship awards for seniors who will pursue their choice of study at Lourdes College.

Dr. Lee R. McMurrin Scholarship - $1,000
The Fund supports a scholarship award to a senior who shows outstanding leadership potential and is open to his/her choice of study. The scholarship is in honor of Dr. Lee R. McMurrin, longtime educator and former TPS Deputy Superintendent (1965-1975) who served under former TPS Superintendent Frank Dick.
The Tabernacle of Faith Worship Center's, James C. & Rosalyn M. Williams, Jr., Scholarship of Excellence Awards - 2 @ $1,000
The Fund supports scholarship awards to two seniors from Jesup W. Scott High School who are continuing their education at an accredited college or university. The award criteria will be based on a short essay, a face-to-face interview, and will require a letter of recommendation from the student's spiritual leader such as his or her Pastor or Bishop.
Toledo Board of Education Leadership Scholarship - $1,000
The Fund supports a scholarship award to a senior who will pursue a four-year baccalaureate degree for a career in public service administration, public policy or governmental affairs, or education. The scholarship is funded by current and former Toledo Board of Education members who believe in a quality public education system for all.
Toledo Public Schools Foundation Scholarships - 5 @ $1,000
The Fund supports seniors who will pursue their choice of study at any local or out-of-town institution of higher learning.
Tyronne and Edna Robertson Scholarships for Libbey and Start High School Seniors - 2 @ $1,000
The Fund supports one scholarship award to a Libbey High School senior and one scholarship award to a Start High School senior who will pursue a four-year baccalaureate degree (their choice of study).
Scarlet and Gray Scholarship - $1,000
The Fund supports a scholarship award for a Start High School senior who is on the honor roll for at least four quarters, has financial need, and will pursue his/her choice of study at The Ohio State University.
The University of Toledo Scholarships - 5 @ $1,000
The Fund supports scholarship awards for seniors who will pursue their choice of study at The University of Toledo.

Thomas J. Waterman, Jr., Scholarship - $500
The Fund supports a scholarship award for a senior who will pursue a four-year baccalaureate degree (his/her choice of study).
TPS Credit Union Robert D. Conley DECA Scholarship - $1,500 Renewable at Second Semester of First Year for a Total Scholarship Value of $3,000
The Fund supports a scholarship award for a senior who will pursue a career in marketing. This scholarship is renewable at the second semester of first year upon meeting certain criteria.
Jewell W. Waters, Jr., Excellence in Mathematics Scholarship - $1,000
The Fund supports a scholarship award to a senior who will pursue a career in mathematics. The scholarship is in memory of Jewell W. Waters, Jr., longtime Libbey High School math educator, who taught mathematics at Libbey High School.
David D. Carter Vocal Music Scholarship - $1,000
The Fund supports a scholarship award to a senior who will pursue a career in vocal or instrumental music as an educator. The scholarship is in memory of David D. Carter, former Music Director at Scott and Start High Schools and renowned soloist and conductor in the Toledo area.
Kathleen T. and Theodore H. Harbaugh Music Scholarship In Honor of Mom and Dad - $1,000
The Fund supports a scholarship award to a Scott High School senior who will pursue a career in music (either as a teacher or as a performer). The scholarship is in honor of Kathleen Harbaugh, who, as a violist, was a founding member of the Toledo Symphony Orchestra, and who taught Suzuki violin for over 30 years in Toledo. It is also in honor of Kay's husband Ted, who, for 25 years, worked to encourage and facilitate the attendance of area schools' fifth and sixth graders at Toledo Symphony Orchestra's (TSO's) Young People's Concerts. (Award made possible through the Kay and Ted Harbaugh Charitable Trust.)
Frank and Shirley Dick Natural Science Technology Center Scholarship - $1,000
The Fund supports a scholarship award to a student enrolled in the Frank Dick Natural Science and Technology Center in natural resources, animal care, floriculture, and landscape design/management programs.
Deborah A. Barnett Scholarship - $500
The Fund supports a scholarship award to a senior at the Polly Fox Academy who will pursue a four-year baccalaureate degree (her choice of study) or post-secondary schooling and/or vocational training.
Julia Orwig Memorial Scholarship - $1,000
The Fund supports a scholarship award to a senior at the Polly Fox Academy who will pursue a four-year baccalaureate degree (her choice of study) or post-secondary schooling and/or vocational training. This scholarship is in memory of Julia Orwig, who was a passionate supporter of initiatives that supported girls and women, especially those less fortunate.
Owens Corning Scholarship - $1,500
The Fund supports a scholarship award to seniors at the Polly Fox Academy who will pursue a four-year baccalaureate degree (his or her choice of study).
Polly Fox Memorial Scholarships - Up to 4 @ $1,000
The Fund supports scholarship awards to seniors at the Polly Fox Academy who will pursue a four-year baccalaureate degree (their choice of study) or post-secondary schooling and/or vocational training. These memorial scholarships are dedicated to the memory of Polly Fox, a longtime educator with Toledo Public Schools.
The Toledo Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, Scholarship - $500
The Fund supports a scholarship award to a senior at the Polly Fox Academy who will pursue a four-year baccalaureate degree (her choice of study) or post-secondary schooling and/or vocational training.
Toledo Academy of Beauty Culture Scholarship - $1,000
The Fund supports a scholarship award to a senior at the Polly Fox Academy who will pursue a career in cosmetology.
Eastman & Smith Ltd. Pre-Law Scholarship - $500
The Fund supports a scholarship award to a senior who will pursue a career in law.
Gupta Scholarship for Prospective Students of Medicine - $1,000
The Fund supports a scholarship award to a senior who will pursue a career in medicine.
The University of Toledo Foundation/The University of Toledo Medical Center Scholarships - 2 @ $1,250
The Fund supports scholarship awards to one senior of African-American and one senior of Hispanic heritage who will pursue a career in medicine.

Hilton Murphy Teacher/Coach Scholarship I - $1,000
The Fund supports a scholarship award to a senior who plans to combine teaching with coaching as his/her career. The Fund is in honor of Hilton Murphy'€™s unique teaching and coaching abilities under former TPS Superintendent Frank Dick.
Hilton Murphy Memorial Teacher/Coach Scholarship II - $1,000
The Fund supports a scholarship award to a senior who plans to combine teaching with coaching as his/her career. The Fund is in memory of longtime coaching "great" Hilton H. Murphy, champion of the gridiron and the classroom, who passed away in 2008. Hilton Murphy'€™s storied career includes being commissioner of athletics under former TPS Superintendent Frank Dick and a member of the TPS Foundation Board.
Richard Daoust Memorial Scholarship - $1,000
The Fund supports a scholarship award to a senior who will pursue a career in education. The memorial scholarship is dedicated to the memory of former TPS Administrator Richard Daoust.
Crystal Ellis Future Leaders Scholarship - $1,000
The Fund supports a scholarship award to a senior who will pursue a career in education. The scholarship is in honor of outstanding former TPS Superintendent Crystal Ellis, whose life and work have been dedicated to providing opportunities for the Toledo community'€™s children and improving the educational system.
Mary Ann Kiss Hamernik Memorial Scholarship - $1,000
The Fund supports a scholarship award to a senior who will pursue a career in education. The memorial scholarship is dedicated to the memory of former TPS Staff Member Mary Ann Kiss Hamernik.
Emory Leverette Memorial Scholarship - $1,000
The Fund supports a scholarship award to a senior who will pursue a career in education. The memorial scholarship is dedicated to the memory of former TPS Administrator Emory Leverette.
T.A.A.P. (Toledo Association of Administrative Personnel) Memorial Scholarship - $1,000
The Fund supports a scholarship award to a senior who will pursue a career in education. This memorial scholarship is in recognition of those T.A.A.P. members/retirees who have passed away during 2009.
Toledo Federation of Teachers Scholarship - $1,000
The Fund supports a scholarship award to a minority senior who will pursue a four-year baccalaureate degree for a teaching career in K-12 public schools.
SCHOLARSHIP FOR A SHERMAN SCHOOL SIXTH GRADER
Merrill A. Grant Sherman School Scholarship - $1,000
The Fund supports a scholarship award to a sixth grader at Sherman School. To receive the scholarship, the student must graduate from a Toledo Public High School.
SCHOLARSHIPS FOR ELLA P. STEWART ACADEMY FOR GIRLS
SIXTH GRADERS
Ella P. Stewart Memorial Scholarships - 2 @ $1,500
The Fund supports scholarship awards to sixth graders at Stewart Academy for Girls who show outstanding leadership potential. To receive the scholarship, the student must graduate from a Toledo Public High School. These memorial scholarships are dedicated to the memory of Ella P. Stewart, a leader who paved the way for young girls to reach their dreams. She was the first African-American pharmacist in Toledo, and owned her own business.
NOTE: “Champion Toledo” Initiative scholarship awards are restricted to any local institution of higher learning, including: Bowling Green State University, Davis College, Heidelberg University, Herzing College, Lourdes College, Owens Community College, Stautzenberger College, and The University of Toledo unless otherwise specified.
